It is a real honour to represent Burslem as cultural champion. I run Barewall Art Gallery which specialises in locally connected quality fine art, ceramics, sculpture and locally made gift items. The gallery is located in Burslem town centre and in 2020 we saw our 10th year.
Art history has always been of interest to me particularly locally which has so many stories to uncover. Burslem is rich with stories and I love that it is the Mother Town of the World Capital of Ceramics. It is also the place where I was born (Middleport) on the same terrace street as Clarice Cliff’s factory. My dad was a potter and I worked on his china firm growing up so I-get ‘The Potter’s Lingo’. The smell of drying clay and pottery dust is one which I can conjure up at any point. To be a proud Stokie it is without doubt a very deep and integral part of me.
